Here I’ve listed the best science fiction and fantasy novels of all time. These are my favorites, and it is in no way an exhaustive list. There is much more to read and many talented novelists who I have not mentioned. If you have any others that you believe should be on this list please add your suggestions in the comments.

1. Ursula K. LeGuin – The Earthsea Quartet. I love this book. The entire series is captivating and it’s simply impossible to put down. I’ve a short attention span so that’s saying something. The books grab you and keep you reading because they have such interesting characters, and the world is so real. I would recommend this book to anyone who’s interested.

2. Raymond E. Fiest – The Magician Series. One of the books I read when I was a teen and Science Fiction Website still one of my favorites. I can’t read through the whole series now like science fiction novels I did back then (because I know how it ends!) but I will still pick up the first book (or 3) and read them over and over. A truly fantastic series.

3. Terry Goodkind – The Seeker of Truth Series. science fiction short stories I couldn’t bring myself to put this one at the top of the list but it came so close! The best author I’ve read, and such similar values to me. It’s not for everyone, but if you love this book, I’m sure we’d get along.

4. Frank Herbert – Dune. A classic. Simply fantastically written and totally out of this world. This book will take you further from where you are and embed into you values you never thought you could have.

5. Harry Harrison – The Deathworld Series. Short stories are some of my favorite and this author has mastered the art.

6. Harry Harrison – The Stainless Steel Rat. Another series that’s Tiffany jewelery got comedy and intensity. Action and an impressive hero.

7. The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy. Ridiculous and amazing. The logic will blow your mind!

8. Joe Haldeman – The Forever War Series. One of the best books about the future I have read. It’s amazing how some of the things are so real these days!

9. Isac Asimov – I Robot. Not just a great movie. This book presents many of the problems such an advanced technological race could achieve.

10. The Day of the Triffids – John Windham. I read this book when I was in high school and never forgot it. I’m sure this is one of the reasons I love science fiction so much these days.

Science fiction has inspired millions to look into the future and just imagine what it could really look like. Great writers like Jules Verne, and HG Wells foresaw the use of Spacecraft, and submarines. Great minds like Leonardo Di Vinci, drew plans of aircraft, and helicopters, half a millennium ago. Perhaps these five inventions could probably happen in our own lifetime?

1. Holographic Television

Imagine watching a movie, without needing a screen. Holographic television could replace the way we see things today, on our screens. Perhaps we could even feel as science fiction short stories if we are inside the movie itself.

2. Flying Automobiles

There are already prototypes of flying cars, but in the future our skies could become a new highway. These cars probably would be fueled by solar energy, and remake the way we design our cities.

3. Food Pills

A looming food crisis could encourage us to develop new ways on how to feed people. If estimates are true, there probably be 12 billion people by 2030, and a huge loss of land through global warming. Food pills could be one answer, which have been used to feed astronauts in space.

4. Smart Clothes

Our clothes of the future may be synthetic and smart. They could heat us when we are cold, and act like air conditioning, science fiction short stories when we are warm. They also could replace the traditional fabrics like cotton, which need valuable land to grow.

5. Energy Free Pod Homes

Our perceptions are Tiffany jewelery changing with a growing population, a fossil fuel crisis, and the loss of land through rising sea levels. A home in the future could be compact and movable, with its own independent energy source, Nano technology, alternative energy sources, and the need for less space make this dream possible.

Flooded lands could become mini-pod cities, where these movable pod like homes could slide into a structure over the water, creating mini-oasis’s in a new expanding sea.

We may sometimes look at the future with unease, but solutions have been found Science Fiction Website in the past to solve similar fears from our ancestors. The human race is adaptable, and creative, and this one reason these inventions may appear in the future, changing the way we live.

Science fiction has long been a favorite subject of Hollywood film makers. Great science fiction movies were being made as early as the 1930s and have provided a solid foundation for modern day science fiction. Let take a closer look at just a few of these Hollywood Science Fiction Classics.

he Invisible Man?was released in 1933 and was directed by James Whale. Based on the H.G. Wells novel of the same name, it tells the story of scientist Dr. Jack Griffin who has invented a serum that makes him completely invisible.

However, the serum comes with the terrible side effect of gradually driving its user insane. Under its influence, Dr. Griffin robs and kills a number of people. A very creepy film that starts out with a good deal of humor, but settles in to become deadly serious. The film features convincing special effects for a movie produced in the 1930s.

One of my favorite science fiction classics is orbidden Planet,?directed by Fred M. Wilcox. Released in 1956, this is perhaps the most highly regarded sci-fi film of the 1950s. It tells the story of Dr. Edward Morbius and his daughter Altaira who are the last two remaining survivors of a colonization attempt on the planet Altair-4.

It is the year 2200 and a group of scientists on a space mission from Earth have just landed in search of Dr. Morbius and the previous missions crew. They find Dr. Morbius to be somewhat unreceptive to their arrival, as he wishes to remain isolated in order to continue his work studying the numerous remains of a once-flourishing society of Krell which is now extinct.

Using Krell technology, Morbius is able to greatly increase his IQ, and in doing so has brought to life a mysterious creature through his own subconscious mind. This is classic 1950s Sci-fi, and introduced what is probably the most popular robot of all-time ?Robbie the robot.

Last, but science fiction novels certainly not least, we have ‘War Of The Worlds’, based on another H.G. Wells novel of the same name. This spectacular movie was released in 1953 and featured breath-taking special effects that were rewarded with an Tiffany jewelery Oscar.

The plot revolves around a meteor crashing near a small town in the California Mountains. However, this is something more than just a meteor with many more having landed around Science Fiction Website the globe. These meteors are carrying Martians with the intention of destroying the unsuspecting human population.

Seemingly unstoppable, they begin to destroy the major cities science fiction short stories of the world. All manor of defense, including the Atomic Bomb, are tried without success. Can anything stop this Martian invasion? Easily one of the greatest science fiction movies of the 1950s.

It was classic science fiction movies like these that helped kick start a whole new genre of films that capture our imagination to this day.

A set of theoretical twin universes that co-exist concurrently as our own are called parallel universes, also known as parallel worlds, multi-verses or meta-universes. Science fictions and TV programs often use parallel universes as an explanation for strange phenomena. They were once purely science fiction, but gradually, scientists in physics and philosophy and even theology started to contemplate into the possibility of parallel worlds as a reality and understand how they work. Although, presently there are a lot of contending theories in regards to the science fiction novels concept of parallel worlds. The basic idea is that if the universe is infinite, then simply pretty much everything that could take place has occurred, is taking place, or could happen. The science that seeks answers to phenomena that cannot be explained by the ordinary laws of physics and science is called quantum mechanics. Possibilities of parallel universes travel have been thought of since 1956 with the use of quantum mechanics.

Hugh Everett, an American Physicist, created a complete theorem which presented his idea pertaining to alternative realities. He developed the concept of parallel universes to describe the theory that each possible outcome of every single choice we have, actually does happen. Although we are only aware of the one road, there are many various other roads that are taking place simultaneously and every selection generates much more alternative roads. While in this universe you may choose path A, an alternate you will choose path B in a parallel universe. The existence of parallel universes is hotly debated. Some people declare that meta-universes exist close to us. These people believed that spirit-like entity such as ghosts may be nothing more than people from alternate universes which somehow move into our reality. Another theory is that parallel universes exist in another dimension, one beyond the four dimension world we dwell in. A growing number of scientists get science fiction novels involved with this field of research and study.

The Big Bang of our Universe, according to a current field of scientific study, is connected to a theory that the Big Bang was actually the result of two universes colliding. Some scientists are now saying that the big explosion we perceive as the beginning of our existence could actually be the consequence of two universes colliding, subsequently producing a new universe. Science may not currently be able to prove the existence of parallel worlds, but it doesn’t mean that they are not reality either.

A number of individuals claim that moving from one universe to another is already possible and the process is called thought transference.
Quantum Jumping – some scientist have science fiction short stories believed that in order to change your location (where you are), you just need to transform your frequencies or thought pattern.
Several people do believe that an alternate or parallel universe is not just made for science fiction even though the idea is not yet proven. Science is Tiffany jewelery significantly moving forward with possibilities about alternate universes. It is a true phenomenon which requires more research.

It looks as though the unthinkable has been achieved- a new Star Trek movie that will bring the franchise back from the edge of extinction. After Star Trek: Insurrection and Star Trek: Nemesis failed to set the box office alight, Star trek: Voyager coming under fire from fans and the prequel TV show Enterprise being canned after just four seasons, it looked as though the Star Trek franchise Science Fiction Website was about ready to fade away at last. After being one of the most respected and long running genre franchises in history (only outdone by Doctor Who), it was losing fans, ratings and attention in huge quantities. With the cast if the Next generation movies now out of their contracts and the studio seemingly science fiction short stories out of ideas for the series, the only way to go was to start over again.

The notion of a prequel movie started to circulate as soon as the Enterprise series left the air. The main idea was a Starfleet Academy film featuring the early years of Kirk and Spock and the other original Star trek characters. This rumour proved to be closer to the mark than fans could imagine. JJ Abrams, of Alias, LOST and Cloverfield fame (amongst everything else he’s been involved with), was chosen to bring back Star Trek for the modern era. The original series was to become a brand new feature film from paramount, with an all new cast playing those iconic 1960s roles. This sent something of a stir through the fan communities. How could these roles be played by anyone other than their original stars? The characters of Kirk, Spock, McCoy and everyone else in the original Science Fiction Website crew have become such cultural mainstays that this was seen as nothing short of sacrilege.

But as news filtered through of casting for the new film (simply titled Star Trek, and not Star Trek XI or otherwise) and spy photos showed glimpses of design work, many fans started to wonder if this could actually be something rather special. With the casting of Heroes star Zachary Quinto as Spock, it became clear that the makers of this new vision of Gene Roddenberry’s legendary science fiction show were taking it seriously. This wasn’t just a cynical attempt at one last hurrah for the franchise- it was to be a bold reinvention for a new generation. With further casting came science fiction short stories more surprises, Chris Pine as Captain James Kirk, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Karl Urban as McCoy, and so on. The faces and talents fit perfectly, and with the first teaser trailer, fans had something real to prove that this was actually happening. Star trek was coming back, and doing so in style.

Plot-wise, it is a time travel story, which the Star Trek universe has been known for since the start. The coup for this production came with the news that the original Spock, Leonard Nimoy, was to reprise his famous role and interact with his younger self, to help combat the effects of what the film’s villain, Nero (played by Eric Bana) has put into play. As pictures and story details filtered through into the public domain, anticipation grew steadily, and here we are at a point where fans are still sceptical to a certain extent, but are extremely excited to see their beloved franchise reborn.

Star Trek, the gargantuan legend of TV, film, merchandise, comics, books and more, is being dealt yet another chance, and this time it looks as though it will be much more effective than the last few attempts. The legend is coming back, with a powerful new cast, a string new story, and a production that surpasses all that has gone before. As long as fans can keep an open mind when watching the film, then this may well be the start of a real ‘next generation’ for the legend that is Star trek. The mythos is in safe hands that are treating Roddenberry’s vision with respect while creating something new, vital and most wonderfully uplifting. Welcome back, Star Trek. We’ve missed you.
